Successful Faculty Development Workshop on Case-Based Learning at College of Dentistry

The Department of Dental Education (DDE) at the College of Dentistry at King Khalid University successfully conducted a faculty development workshop titled “From Theory to Practice-Enhancing Student-Centered Learning through Case-Based Learning (CBL).” The workshop, held across five sessions on 31st August, 2nd September, 3rd September, 7th September, and 10th September 2025, was designed to strengthen faculty capacity in adopting CBL as a core strategy in undergraduate dental education. Each session was conducted from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with participation limited to 25 faculty members per day to ensure meaningful engagement and interaction.

The sessions provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on their current teaching approaches, revisit the essential elements of effective CBL implementation, and apply CBL strategies by designing cases and facilitating active learning exercises. The program also highlighted the importance of aligning teaching practices with NCAAA requirements through diversified instructional methods and integration of value-domain activities.

Faculty members from all departments participated actively in the workshop. They engaged in discussions and hands-on exercises designed to enhance the delivery of CBL. The workshop was widely appreciated by the participants, who noted that it provided valuable insights into designing and facilitating effective CBL sessions, improving student engagement, and promoting critical thinking in undergraduate classrooms.

With its successful completion, the workshop stands as an important milestone in the College of Dentistry’s ongoing efforts to promote student-centered learning. The DDE reaffirm its commitment to continuous faculty development initiatives that support best practices in dental education and accreditation standards.
