Department of Prosthodontics (SDS)

About Department

The Prosthodontics Department is one of the six departments of the college, symbolized by the symbol (SDS). The Department is concerned with teaching integrated courses and conducting research in fixed and removable prosthodontic sciences, maxillofacial prosthesis and dental implants in all its preclinical and clinical divisions based on the latest technologies adopted in dentistry. In addition to supervising the teaching of undergraduate courses in prosthodontic sciences, the department oversees the training of residents in the Saudi Specialty Certificate in Prosthodontics program. The department also provides members of the teaching staff with treatment services for patients in the specialty college clinics.

Vision & Mission:

To be a distinguished department in the college for preparing highly qualified dentists, supporting advanced scientific research, and supporting postgraduate dentists at the national and international levels in the specialty of prosthodontics.

Goals:

Updating and developing the academic standards of the department under the National Commission for Academic Accreditation standards to ensure quality.
Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students the most advanced methods of treating patients.
Ensuring the competence of graduates and preparing them for the labor market.
Promoting and encouraging faculty members to adopt advanced methods of education and scientific research.
Supporting scientific research in the department and pushing it to compete locally and internationally in the field of research.
Providing comprehensive dental care services to an expanded number of patients in the region.

	Division name	Division scope (short description)
1	Advanced Prosthodontics	Teaching students the science of advanced prosthodontics, principles of treatment planning, and the clinical sequence of implant prosthodontic treatment and fixed prosthodontics. Providing treatment services for extraordinary and unusual cases of patients through advanced and specialized treatment methods. Theoretical and practical supervision of postgraduate students. Conducting scientific research in advanced prosthodontics and publishing in leading scientific journals.
2	Fixed Prosthodontics	Providing students with knowledge and pre-clinical practical training in methods of tooth preparation to receive various fixed dental restorations in the simulation laboratories at the College of Dentistry. Providing students with knowledge and clinical skills in treatment planning and clinical restoration of destructed teeth and replacing missing natural teeth with fixed dentures. Providing treatment services to patients to restore destructed teeth and replace lost natural teeth, by providing fixed dental crowns and bridges of various types, metal or ceramic. Theoretical and practical supervision of postgraduate students. Conducting scientific research in the sciences of fixed prosthodontics and publishing in approved scientific journals.
3	Removable Prosthodontics	Providing students with knowledge and pre-clinical practical training in methods of manufacturing removable prosthetics in prosthodontics laboratories. Providing students with knowledge and clinical skills in treatment planning and methods of replacing missing natural teeth with removable dentures. Providing treatment services to patients to replace lost natural teeth, by providing complete or partial removable dentures whether acrylic, metallic, or overdentures. Theoretical and practical supervision of postgraduate students. Conducting scientific research in the science of removable prosthodontics and publishing in approved scientific journals.
