Dr. Sondos Alghamdi

Dr. Sondos Alghamdi from the College of Dentistry, King Khalid University, received the James Dunning Award for Excellence in Community Dentistry from Harvard University in the United States of America and the Best Scientific Poster Award at the Scientific Research Day at Harvard University.

Prof. Ibrahim AlShahrani

A dedicated research team, including Prof. Ibrahim bin Sulaiman Al-Shahrani and Dr. Ali bin Hassan Al-Haizai, Orthodontist and Maxillofacial Consultant at King Faisal Medical City in Abha, has secured their second patent from the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property. This breakthrough involves an adjustable orthodontic bracket that enhances treatment precision, reduces material waste, and preserves tooth root integrity—modernizing a technique that remained unchanged for 50 years. This achievement marks another milestone in their ongoing efforts since 2019, following their first patent in 2020 for a height-adjustable orthodontic tool. Their innovations aim to refine orthodontic technologies, making treatments more efficient and patient-friendly.

Institutional ethical review board

The committee deliberates all relevant issues related to scientific research within the scope of KKU, College of Dentistry. The committee's objectives include the initiation, facilitation, integration, and support of research projects conducted by the faculty, students, and research groups. Its purpose is to ensure the presence of an appropriate system that regulates and monitors the quality of research in compliance with the highest principles of ethics.

Dental Internship Program

The internship training programme is a 12-month programme designed to improve the graduate dentist’s (interns) knowledge and skills in general dentistry practice. It prepares the interns to deliver high-quality dental care with required guidance from different specialties. The programme offers insight particularly in the area of their planned future specialty, involving research projects to show innovative ideas and develop scientific writing abilities.

The committee serves as a vital link between the college and its graduates, fostering lifelong professional and academic relationships. The committee is dedicated to strengthening alumni engagement through communication, professional development, continuing education, and collaborative initiatives that contribute to the growth of graduates, the college, and the wider dental community. Through its various programs and activities, the committee aims to build a strong and connected alumni network that supports excellence, innovation, and community service.

Community Services

The Community Services Committee (CSC) deliberates all relevant issues related to social services within the scope of King Khalid University, College of Dentistry (KKUCOD). The committee reflects institution’s mission and goals of community service through extensive outreach programs that bring quality education and treatment to those in need of dental care. KKU College of Dentistry has the state-of-the-art mobile dental unit, which gives best treatment experience for both patients and operating doctors in outreach programs. It also aims to provide KKUCOD students with practical working experience in different field setups like schools, shopping malls, orphanages, old age homes, children with special needs, etc.
